Tracy says, "Many businesses, both large and small, often place a lot of importance on their artwork and advertising, but neglect the basics, like grammar and punctuation. A quick read of the copy might seem 'okay' to the average audience, but is 'okay' really good enough for your business? "I've seen many great-looking websites have their images tarnished by poor spelling and grammar, and it's such a shame, because this can really affect their professional image. It shouldn't be assumed that the person who types the content of the publication won't make a typo, or that they know which spelling of a word to use. The spell-checker isn't reliable, because it won't always pick up incorrect grammar or punctuation." |

How is the editing done?Having your work edited doesn't need to be a headache, and Elf Editing provides a fast turnaround time.The majority of tasks performed by Elf Editing are done electronically, ie. by email. Simply, you type your work, you email it, it is amended according to your requirements, and it is emailed back to you with an invoice attached. If you don't have access to the internet, you can fax or post** a copy of the job (paper, disk or USB drive) to us, it will be marked up on paper, and posted back to you (the author's familiarity with professional proofreading symbols is an advantage). Please advise if you require this service during initial discussions, and allow a longer timeframe for the job to be returned. Electronic mark up is done in Word, by using Tracking (in the Review section). This means that the corrections will be displayed in different ways and in different colours for each task (ie. deletions display in red, with a line through them; insertions will display in blue, etc.). This enables the author to either accept or reject the changes when they receive the work back (this requires an intermediate knowledge of Word), and gives them more control over what changes are made. 2. Text edited on screen – no tracking: This simply means that the work is amended on screen with no amendments shown, and the amended version is saved as a separate document to enable the author to keep track of exactly what has been changed. This service is useful for legal documents that may have multiple versions drafted. 3. Hard copy mark up: Marking up involves using professional proofreading marks on paper. This is beneficial if the author has no internet access, or they are working with a longer manuscript such as a book. Usually, this service is used by book publishers. For marking up it is helpful if the layout is at least 1½ -2 line spacing to enable sufficient room for written changes to be made on the page.
